The Elite Soccer Academy will offer specialized goalkeeper training at both the Advanced Camp and the Elite Camp. Erin Lycan, the Virginia Tech Goalkeeper Coach will run all goalkeeper sessions. At both residential camps, the goalkeepers will train as a group twice daily, during the morning and afternoon sessions. During the evening session, each goalkeeper will be assigned to a team to participate in the full field 11 v 11 games.
Training will consist of a technical focus on proper technique through a handling progression, situational repetitions, and goalkeeper games, building into functional training which challenges the goalkeeper to apply the proper technique to the tactical situations. Elements of training may include: handling, shot-stoping, angle play, footwork, breakaways, back to the bar, crosses, flighted balls, set plays, long range shots, reaction training, vertical positioning, and distribution. Decision-making, leadership, and communication will also be important components covered in training and in games, with a special emphasis on problem-solving from a goalkeeper's perspective.
Be sure to register as a goalkeeper at either the Advanced Camp or the Elite Camp when you sign up to be included in the goalkeeper training.
